Journey to Neverland
5th grade students at McCornack Elementary staged a colorful and complicated theatrical production of "Peter Pan" this spring. Karen Olsen shares, "This musical theatre experience really brought a myriad of new and wonderful experiences to our students. We had wonderful volunteers from the community that worked with the students to teach Taiko drumming, dance, and fencing. Everyone felt like it was such a rewarding, team effort for all of the kids and adults involved. This musical was amazing because it spoke to many of our students who have a lot of challenges in their life. Our students were very loyal and dedicated to the process. The message of Peter Pan is about youthful joy, friendship and good over evil. The cast really embraced those themes and were so proud of their combined efforts."
A student said: "At first, I didn't want to be in Peter Pan, because I was too shy and a little scared. I ended up getting one of the main parts and I was so happy to be a part of it!"
EEF is proud to be a part of the continued tradition of musical theatre efforts at McCornack. Karen says, "The question that rings long and loud from eager students is, "What will the musical be next year?"
