FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is EEF's mission?
EEF's Mission: Promoting educational excellence and opportunities for all students in the Eugene public schools.
A gift to EEF is the simple, direct way to support all students in District 4J. Your support enriches programs at the level of the district, and at every school, and in dozens of classrooms every year.
- If you want to help all schools, just write "EEF" on your check's payable line. Focus your gift by adding "Music" or "Literacy" or any other activity, if desired. These dollars go to priorities selected by each school through EEF's grant process.
- If you want to designate a specific school, write its name on your check's payable line (followed by "EEF"). Do the same if you wish to designate a specific 4J program, such as Radio KRVM or 4J Health Clinics. These dollars are forwarded to the program you name.
In its role as "umbrella" for gifts designated for specific schools and programs, 5% of such gifts go into the grant-making fund for all schools, and 5% is dedicated to EEF development. Otherwise, all general gifts go 85% to support of students across the district, with 15% directed toward EEF's development and recruitment of new donors.
Gifts to the endowment go 100% to Oregon Community Foundation, which manages EEF's permanent assets.
Are my gifts deductible?
Yes.
Because EEF is a 501(c)(3) organization, your gifts are deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
We send a thank-you letter suitable for tax purposes as soon as we receive your gift. The one exception is if you sign up for automatic monthly bank drafts, in which case we'll send you a summary at the close of each calendar year.
If you can't lay hands on your receipt letter at tax time, just call (541) 343-6877 and we'll mail a replacement.
What is the relationship between EEF and District 4J?
District 4J is a part of the State of Oregon, and EEF is the foundation created in 1993 for its support. They are separate legal entities—just as the University of Oregon and UO Foundation are separate—yet work closely together for the benefit of students.
Since 1993 EEF has received over $9 million.
The other area foundations are Bethel Education Foundation supporting Bethel School District (http://www.betheleducationfoundation.org) and Springfield Education Foundation supporting Springfield School District (http://www.springfieldeducationfoundation.org).
